My sister-in-law posted this morning on Facebook about her father’s mental and verbal abuse of her brothers (and my husband). It was powerful because while I have always heard how mean he was, I never realized it until now. It is a silent secret, not only when it occurs but for a lifetime. I am glad she spoke up.
I am glad she spoke up too because any silence about any abuse just breeds contempt, pain, and sorrow. I hope that the family has found some healing.

But, oftentimes, when it actually happened, because the abuser is someone that the victim’s close to, and so, the victim couldn’t tell, and so, the victims suffered longer than they should have.
